Safeway Pink Slip Number Reduced to 400

Looks like that number of 1,000 laid off at grocery giant Safeway was off the mark by about 600. Published reports are now showing that Safeway has laid off around 400 workers across the country, including about 70 right in and around Northern California, where the company is headquartered.

Areas affected included Safeway headquarters in Pleasanton, CA, and operations Southern California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, Texas, Illinois, Maryland, and Virginia.
